Is Luxury a Necessity?
Working in the luxury category we sometimes wonder if it’s meaningful in the scheme of doing something that’s “good-for-the-world.” After all we don’t really need the next pretty bauble or cool new bangle. We want it. It makes our heart race a little faster but is it really important?
Recently, at the Harvester Fashion Show in Orange County I was impressed with the turnout of all the beautiful, committed people to this amazing cause. The Harvesters feed over 400,000 families annually and the funds raised from this very glamorous event are a significant part of it.
We love the fact that a beautiful gown or piece of jewelry takes us to a dreamy place within our inner landscape, which can sometimes be a battlefield, but it’s also nice to know that we can use this abundance for others. Seeing luxury retailers such as Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Barbara Bui, Chloe, Christian Dior, Valentino and Oscar de la Renta donating their time and luxurious ensembles to an event like the Harvesters was gratifying. Not to mention all the beautiful women (and men) who work tirelessly to do it and support it months before it happens. Was it luxurious? Yes. Was it necessary? Yes.
