Costume jewelry versus Fine jewelry
Costume jewelry has a place in the totality of jewelry collecting, really. Sigh.
What’s nice about it is that you can dance the night away without worrying too much if something gets lost or broken. Or a big splashy pair of earrings can be tried out for the fun of it even if it’s not “you.”
But at the end of the day that piece drops to the bottom of the drawer and fades into impulse purchases of years gone by. Then it will end up in a plastic freezer bag at a garage sale with a 25 cent sticker on it. Sad really.
Ah, but what about the name brand goodies – designer names even? Well at that point they certainly won’t end up at the garage sale. But designer costume jewelry is not inexpensive. We say, put that thousand dollars (or more) toward the real stuff.
Great fine jewelry can always be sold at auction so you can recycle your dollars to make way for a new piece if you must.. Often times that good piece of jewelry has such a great memory or sentiment behind it- it never ends up in the bottom of a drawer somewhere.
A few of our jewelry memories are posted on our Pinterest board.
